A big “THANK YOU” to my readers! Thank you for reminding me about some important things I need, and that I left off of my prior list, if there is an earthquake, tornado, super storm, etc. in your area. If I’ve forgotten anything else, please give me a shout-out!
ID – Passport, driver’s license, etc.
Other Important documents – Birth certificates, immunization and other medical records, insurance policies, etc. Keep these in a safe place, stored together, so you can grab them and go, if necessary.
Pictures – stored on a flash drive or CD. You’re unlikely to be able to grab all your photo albums or even your camera. But you can store a flash drive (or more) with your important documents, so you can grab them and go, if you need to evacuate.
Clothes! – If you need to leave your home, do not forget some extra clothing. I read about one woman’s experience when evacuating her home during the fires in Orange County, CA. She grabbed her laundry hamper on the way out along with a few other things. She was sure the evacuation was just a precaution and that they would be back soon. Their house burned to the ground. Because she acted on her inspiration, she and her family had a few days’ worth of clothes which helped them get through the first few days after this disastrous change in their circumstances.
Pets! – Make sure that you have food, water, and other necessary supplies for your pets.
