My kids went back to school today. Well, my oldest did. I home school my youngest, but school started for him as well. With this mind-blowing amount of free time, can you guess what I’m doing today?
EVERYTHING!!
Laundry, organizing and inventorying my food storage, baking bread, and prepping some white beans for canning. See?
I made just one loaf of bread since one of my boys, the best bread eater, is back at school.
It will be done soon!
I received some food storage a couple of weeks ago which I never even opened! Well, today I opened it, added it to my food storage app (which keeps track of my inventory and progress), dated the cans and box, and put it away, nice and neat, so my food storage closet doesn’t get overrun!
Finally, I sorted and washed some Great Northern beans, and now they’re soaking. I’ll can them tonight after dinner so they can sit in the pressure canner overnight, cooling.
I’m going to start a long-awaited sewing project, and dinner’s still to come (I’m making my friend’s fabulous homemade chicken noodle soup recipe for the very first time.). It looks like today is going to be a wonderfully, productive day!!
Tomorrow? That’s another story! I’ll probably be so exhausted that I’ll laze around the house all day. π
What are you doing now that the holidays are over and life is returning to normal?

Today I put away all the canning I did last week and cleaned up the pantry and storage are where I keep all our extra staple goods.

Awesome! What is the name of the food storage app you use? And do you have a favorite book you would recommend for canning? Thanks for sharing!

I like the Ball canning book. It’s available most places where canning supplies are sold. I also frequent a few websites which feature tested recipes, so I know they’re not only safe, but delicious as well.
The food storage app I use is called “Food Storage app.” (http://foodstorageapp.com) It was free when I downloaded it a couple of years ago, but I think it’s a couple of dollars now. While I don’t generally pay for apps, I’m too cheap, I think this one is worth it. I’ll write a post about it later this week or early next and give some details.

Love the idea of bread – can almost smell it baking in my oven. How do you like home schooling? Did that for Kiddo – it was wonderful!

I like home schooling more some days than others. π However, it’s generally very good and good for my son.

One thing I’m doing: Dreaming of what that bread loaf will look like when it’s baked! I’m trying to stay organized, get rid of a cold before a flight to Cancun on Friday, and get a few posts ahead for my blog.

Happy to see you in my Reader again! Now you’ve inspired me to get out the pressure canner and can those black beans. My garbonzos last year turned out awesome, a nice texture just like the cans on the shelf. How long do you soak your for before caning?

Thank you!! Glad to hear that your garbanzos turned out well. I soak beans overnight or for at least 8-10 hours (if I start them in the morning).
